Around The House
Be more responsible about the laundry and dry cleaning. Don’t let it pile up.
Hang photos and art in the house so the walls don’t look so bare.
Get a dresser for the bedroom.
Re-tile the upstairs bathroom.
Store unseasonal clothes so they are out of the way.
Make better use of the attic.
Paint and redecorate the office.
Figure out how to get the painted-shut windows open throughout the house.
Have more meals at the dining room table, and fewer in the living room.
Get a new dishwasher.
By the time summer gets here make the back porch a place you’d want to spend warm nights. Get new patio furniture and stop using it as storage.
Plant food-bearing plants and keep the garden healthy.
Research and consider step-gardening.
Get holiday lights up in a more timely fashion.
Money
Get all debts that aren’t student loans paid off.
Make a plan to save up to buy a new car in cash.
Do not overdraw checking account even one time.
Spend less money on iTunes, booze, and eating out.
Contribute to the church, Development in Gardening, political campaigns and prisoners’ rights groups. Make it a part of the regular budget.
Health and Body
Continue to go to the gym at least 5 days a week.
Train for the 10K. If it goes well, train for the half-marathon.
Take a class. Martial arts, yoga, spinning - something to challenge myself.
Lose 4 inches off the waist and 20 pounds.
Stop biting your freaking nails!
Build a better business wardrobe.
Don’t buy a single piece of "goal clothing."
Continue to keep allergies under control.
Go one month without alcohol, starting Jan. 3. If it goes well, continue through February.
Eat more vegetables, and whenever possible make them locally grown.
Eat out less often.
Grill more.
Walk to work. Walk Sam every day. Walk with Brian. Walk a lot.
At work, try to get up from the desk every hour to keep circulation going.
Continue supplements and add a multivitamin.
Only take antibiotics if you’re seriously, seriously ill.
Writing and Creativity
Write 1,000 words of the novel every day until it’s finished. When it is, edit the shit out of it, all the way through, and send the thing to publishers.
Enter as many of the Writer’s Digest contests as possible this year.
Get stories in two magazines this year.
Write something in the journal every day. Even just a few lines.
Maintain the 10-year journal.
Write a play. Even just a five-minute one, or a screenplay.
Keep index cards handy at all times for scribbling down ideas and thoughts.
With Joshua, create and design a comic book.
Get back in the Gazette groove.
Take a good photo every day. This will mean taking a lot of horrible ones.
Save for and purchase a digital SLR camera and learn how to use it inside and out.
Continue to improve on Photoshop.
See about displaying photos somewhere public and selling them.
Drive more traffic to the blog by making the writing tighter and the photography better.
Learn and try lots of new recipes.
Get better at origami.
Read as many books as possible. You don’t have to do 52 this year, but try.
Having Fun, Raising Hell
Enjoy yourself and your family in Colorado. Climb another 14er, take mom out to dinner on her birthday, and take a lot of pictures.
Go to Dallas for a weekend with Brian.
Go to VZDs, the Conservatory, and the Diamond Ballroom more.
Get your stinkin’ wrist tattoos!
Plan to take an overseas vacation with Brian in 2009. Make a plan and start saving. Learn the language of where you’ll go. Read its literature.
Go to Austin.
Help K.C. get a big crowd at the taping of her live album.
Go camping at least twice.
Have more dinners with friends and family.
Two hours of T.V. a day is the absolute maximum. Try to get by without any.
Listen to NPR more.
Go hiking.
Have a Pride party and try to enjoy yourself at the festivities this year.
Have a Christmas Party on December 13.
Enjoy Feb. 29th.
Consider going to SXSW.
Spend more time at the Art Museum.
Have a great birthday party for Brian’s 30th.
During the Christmas season go ice skating, to the Myriad Gardens and to Chickasha.
Dress up for Halloween.
Split the cost of the OU season tickets with mom & John. Go to as many games as possible. Start planning early to attend the National Championship if OU goes. If not, try to go to whatever bowl we get in.
Enjoy your own birthday for once.
Feeding the Spirit
Continue to volunteer with Mobile Meals at church.
Have quiet times. Even if it’s just your walk to work and you’re not listening to your iPod.
Be a better friend.
Think less about how you’d do it over and more about how you’ll do it from now on.
Continue to love on Brian and Sam every single day.
Treasure your time with Dad. Go visit him.
Try to believe that things will go well in November. Don’t lose faith in America or the Democratic Party if they don’t.
Do the one-year Bible read-through thing.
Pray before meals. Give thanks, even silently, with your eyes open, while eating.
Make meal time a special time for us. Eat at the table and talk.
Consume less. Give more. Be thankful.
Volunteer at a homeless shelter.
Miscellany
Get our wills finalized, and make sure our final wishes are in writing.
Stay organized.
Write more letters and thank-you notes.
Love on Sam and keep him healthy.
Do your taxes as soon as all the stuff comes. No exceptions.
Listen to music on artists’ websites and MySpace pages before buying it.
No fast food in 2008. I dare you.
When you do eat out, try places you’ve never been.
Make a once-a-month standing lunch date with Brian.
Go to bed at the same time as Brian as often as possible.
Do some soul-searching about the wedding. Figure it out.
