Turtle

Ohhh, Cute!

A few weeks ago we were at my mom’s  house and my brother’s girlfriend said, "I’ve never seen any pictures of John when he was little!" This declaration led us to pull a box out of my mom’s closet that was almost as high as my knees, filled and overflowing with old family photos. The best of these I collected in a large envelope and have been scanning them during my down time. This one is one of my favorites, taken probably about 1984, when I was 4 and my brother was 2, in the yard of our house in western Oklahoma. My childhood was a really, really happy one, so these photos always make me smile.

Little SOBs

Stickers

These little SOBs are all over my yard every year, and while they bloom, they’re always all over my dog. Hundreds of plants, every year, little SOBs sprouting up everywhere and I hate, hate, hate them and would buy a car* for whoever could tell me exactly how to get rid of them.

*We’re talking Matchbox here, people; I’m not made of money.

White Rose

White Rose

The subject matter is a bit hackneyed, I’ll admit, but this sure did make for a great black and white photo. This is one of my favorites, ever.

Modern Living

Modern Living

We went to the State Fair on Saturday, where we spent 2 hours looking for the Barack Obama booth so we could get a yard sign. It wasn’t where the Fair directory said it would be, but in the meantime we got some pretty cool pictures and ate some food that probably took at least six or eight weeks off our lives.

Swarm

Swarm

With the help of manual focus, a 1600 shutter speed and a little luck, I was able to capture this photo of a swarm of gnats hovering above my garden. I don’t love that they were there, but they made for a neat photo.

Fried Snicker!

Fried Snicker!

Now, okay. I tend - and prefer - to err on the side of the health-nut. Still and all, the fair comes about once a year, and if you’ve never tried a fried Snicker (I can’t vouch for fried Oreos or Twinkies, having disliked the Oreos and avoided the Twinkies), you’re missing out big time. Reminds me of a conversation that I had last week with a girl at work:

Me: I think Fried Snicker is definitely my favorite thing to eat at the Fair.

Her: Ewww! That sounds gross!

Me: Have you tried it?

Her: No.

Me: Well, then, don’t tell me how it sounds. Try one, and then tell me how it is.

If I Had An Album, This Would Be The Cover

…but I don’t have an album, and, lucky you - I never will.

The Speed of Fun

The Speed of Fun

I don’t know if you watched the slide show or not, but to celebrate my return to color photography, and the continuing Oklahoma State Fair, I’m going to spend this week posting photos that I took last Thursday night, which, in my opinion, are some of the coolest I’ve taken so far.
