America – If being an American doesn’t occasionally give you such heights of joy and such depths of doubt that you can scarcely bear it, you’re doing it wrong. I write about both here.
What’s Wrong With America – That thing I said about depths of doubt? This is a series of numbered vignettes, stories that illustrate why I *don’t* believe our country is the infallible savior of the world.
Conversations – I write these to help myself write dialogue. And because I occasionally happen to be a part of hilarious talking.
Daily – My default category.
Drinkin‘ – Because I do love the creature. And am a professional beer, wine and spirits writer.
Family – Because my family – the family I was born with and the family I’ve created – are the main reason I love my life and stay where I am.
Food – Who doesn’t love eating? I actually depend on it to live. And I love to cook, too.
Gamin‘ – My best friends growing up were an 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System and my own imagination. One took over for the other when it got unplugged. I still love to play. The good thing about being an adult is you can play whilst drunk.
Growing – I grow a vegetable and flower garden every summer; it occasionally leads me to spiritual revelations and backaches and mosquito bites and amazing hand-made salsas.
Grrrr – Because sometimes stuff pisses me off, and I have to write about it.
Hilarity – All the funny stuff that happens to me, or that I come across, that I want to share with you.
Home – Where I share the adventure of being a homeowner, of decorating, of design, of style, of trying to keep the roof from caving in.
Projects – Big projects we undertake in the house, sometimes with a how-to or a “WTF?”
Homo – I am teh gay. Sometimes I’m not so fond of or nice to my fellow gays, though I pretty much always stand in solidarity with them. At least, politically. I am so not on board with Britney.
Ink – I have two tattoos. I got them both illegally. The one on my left arm is the last illegal tattoo in America. I want more, but am super picky and deliberate about what to get.
Interweb – We’re all on it. Might as well talk about it.
Meta – Sometimes you have to blog about your blog. It’s impossible to avoid. Think of these as the church announcements.
Love – Adventures in marriage.
Movies – I love them, but my taste in them is probably not yours.
Music – I live for it. It’s almost always on somewhere near me. I have dear friends who play it professionally. But don’t try to predict what I’ll like. It’s almost impossible, even for me.
North Carolina – I lived there for four years and still know a whole, whole bunch of really neat people who have remained. I try to get back to visit, but it’s never often enough.
Oklahoma – Where I live now, the place I love more than any other, and where I hope to always come home to.
Centennial Project – A six-part series of essays celebrating the 100th anniversary of Oklahoma statehood in November 2007.
Oklahoma Road Trip – What started as a lark in the summer of 2008 – take as many trips as possible to heretofore-unseen Oklahoma places – turned into a series of published articles and continues to this day as the occasional spontaneous day trip or assigned story. Come discover my state with me!
Photos – I love taking them. It turns out I’m kinda good at it.
Reading – I try to write as much as possible about the books I’m reading. I’m an aspiring author and I devour the written word.
Sam – The Wonder Dog.
School – I was in graduate school when I started this blog. I earned my degree in writing but still have a zillion stories from kindergarten on up.
Sports – I love them. Few things are better than a college football game on an autumn day.
Stories – The whole point of this website, really. The stories I’m constantly telling and re-telling, written down, shared, ruminated upon.
Teenage Me – Inspired by Sarah Brown’s Cringe, selections from my awful teenage journals and poetry books and stories of dumb stuff I did from 13-20.
Vignettes – Tiny stories. Little moments. When you read these, share your own back.
This I Believe – I’m a person of faith. I majored in religion. I minored in philosophy. I think what we believe and how we think matters. Here’s my journey of believing.
Travels – Seeing new places, discovering new nooks and crannies in the world is one of my favorite things.
TV – I love it. I watch it too much. I talk about it even more. I have almost impeccable taste in it. I believe reality television, legal shows, medical shows and cop shows are the devil and no one should ever watch them, almost ever.
videos – Sometimes I make videos. More often I find ones that I think you should watch.
Writer – What I do. Who I am. What I know.
