I just turned in a story about some of northwestern Oklahoma’s most interesting geological marvels, including the Glass/Gloss Mountain Area, and I included this photo with the story. It’s one of the coolest hikes/nature walks you could take in Oklahoma, so if you’re looking for a neat day trip, I highly recommend it.

Lovely photograph. I haven’t been out hiking since visiting Mt. Scott a few years ago – far too long.
Nothing much else to say, except that I’ve been silently enjoying your blog for about a month now, and thought a comment was warranted. Keep it up.

Ah! Nice gypsum capstone there. I have an hour-glass Selenite crystal from that very spot [or one quite like it]. When I lived and worked out of OKC as an exploration geologist I always got myself down to the Wichita Mtn Wildlife Preserve in October to smell the grass as it ripened and browned [it almost reminded me of walking in the woods back in Indiana in the fall]. Can you still drive up Windingstair Mountain? I nearly got blown off of it when I took the road to Mena, Arkansas, one day.
