The Air Out There
The Air Out There

It’s freezing and freezing raining today, and though I’m in a fantastic mood I need to be reminded of clear blue skies and green, growing things and that I’m not trapped in this city, which is how I feel when it’s like this outside. Also, the prairies, more than anything, remind me of God, who feels very close today.

I share your love of western Oklahoma and the prairies and definitely feel closer to God there. I spent a spectacular day on Friday driving 450 miles west and north to Woodward and Alabaster and Boiling Springs and Freedom and Buffalo. Reveling in God – that is until I found five coyotes strung up like chile ristras on a barbed-wire fence. That makes you question God real hard. Or other people’s version, anyway. It wasn’t until seeing those coyotes – that I understood the Matthew Shepherd gesture on the fence as well. Apparently vermin comes in all shapes and sizes… as does evil that men do.
